Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead isn’t your typical zombie apocalypse narrative; it’s a story that injects colour, humour, and a surprising amount of heart into a genre that’s often anything but.

The series follows Akira Tendo, a man who finds liberation in the midst of chaos. His life, once a monochrome slog through corporate drudgery, is jolted into vibrant technicolour by the zombie outbreak. It’s a transformation that’s both literal and metaphorical, as the animation shifts from desaturated to a kaleidoscope of hues the moment Akira realizes he’s free from his soul-sucking job. I paused, rewind back and watched the whole thing again… it is so good!

As I watched Akira gleefully draft his bucket list, I couldn’t help but feel his infectious enthusiasm for life. Akira is an immediately endearing protagonist, and his journey is one that would resonate with each of us at one point or another in our life. The show’s themes of breaking free from societal expectations and finding one’s own path in life are universal.

The anime is a feast for the eyes, with vibrant colours and dynamic animation that make every scene pop. Whether it’s the neon-lit streets of Tokyo or the quirky, detailed character designs, the visuals are always engaging and fun.

Look at those colours!!

Forget the usual gloom and doom of zombie stories. Zom 100 brings a fresh, upbeat perspective to the genre, focusing on the adventures and the freedom that come with the end of the world and it is packed with laugh-out-loud moments.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is a wildly entertaining ride that combines the thrill of zombie chases with the joy of chasing your dreams. Its unique blend of humour, heart, and stunning visuals make it a standout anime. Season 2 has run into some trouble but I hope they greenlight it soon.
